This goes to show that employers are taking their time to find the right candidates to fill jobs, especially more senior positions such as management roles. These roles are crucial to the efficient running of the business and it is essential to recruit the right person.

If you are looking for a management position you should be prepared for a much tougher recruitment process including an intense manager interview. Your CV may be fine tuned to sell your skills but it is the job interview, or indeed interviews, that really show the interviewer that you are the right person for the job.

Female unemployment hits 20 year high

A recent report from the Office for National Statistics has highlighted that women are suffering much more than men at this stage of the economic crisis. With more than a million women unemployed, this is now at a 20 year high.

Despite reports that the economy is starting to recover, female employment has actually decreased again by 64,000 over the course of the last year compared to an increase in male employment by 69,000.

Graduates are still struggling to find work years after graduating

A new survey has highlighted the difficulties that graduates are having getting on the career ladder years after leaving university.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency recently published data on the graduates of 2007 which showed that over a quarter (27.7%) were still not in full time paid employment. Just under 9% were in part time work leaving 63% out of the workplace entirely. In a time when university fees are at their highest this is worrying news for students and new graduates. Read More…

83 Applications Per Graduate Vacancy Means Tougher Interviews

The Daily Mail reports that the number of applications for graduate placements has doubled over the last two years, creating intense recruitment procedures for the thousands still looking for their first step on the ladder.

Many firms admit that they are only considering a 2:1 or above as academic criteria before putting interviewees through their paces and with an average of 83 applications per vacancy the competition is fierce. “Universities encourage students to focus on their grades and their CV but there is one last and major hurdle – the interview” says Joe McDermott, CEO of Anson Reed Ltd, the interview training company behind the InterviewGold.com website.
